Meet Dancing Gigi!
Gigi is a 5 year old, American Miniature Horse mare. I have had owned her most of her life. From the very first moment I met her, I knew she was exceptionally intelligent. She serves as a Service Animal for me. Not only does she help me on with walks, but she also picks up just about everything I drop and gives it directly back to my hand.
She quickly learned to play "fetch." And then, I thought it would be fun to teach her line dance steps, bearing in mind that I really cannot dance, She learned the steps quickly. And then, while teaching a friend the dance steps to the Electric Slide, Gigi who was off doing her own thing, heard the music and saw us trying to dance. She immediately walked over, figured out what step we were on, and stepped right into the dance! She really loves to dance!
Why We Dance!
Miniature horses can live into their 40's. They are a long term commitment, and the more you work with them, the more amazing they become. Too often, people buy minis as pets for their kids. And then the kids get bored, so the parents decide to sell the mini through social media. And some guy shows up and says he will give your baby the perfect home and hands you some cash. Then, that "nice" fellow drives your horse to the auctions and your horse gets sent to slaughter.
We are trying to educate people about the intelligence and sensitivity of these wonderful animals and thus hopefully break this terrible chain. And these beautiful animals must never be kept alone. They need an equine companion to be happy.
We dance for joy.
We dance to lift people up in this tough world. We dance to show a little miracle of God's creation.
And we dance to raise enough funds to make sure Gigi and her friends never ever end up in a very bad place or experience cruelty of any kind.
